Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme
MiDAS stands for Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme.
It is a membership-based training scheme designed to improve driving and safety standards for people who drive minibuses, particularly in community transport and voluntary organisations.
The scheme is governed by the Community Transport Association (CTA), which promotes nationally recognised standards for minibus driver training and assessment.

What Does the MiDAS Minibus Test Training Course Cover?
Three-Part MiDAS Training
Our MiDAS course training is delivered in three parts.
Part 1 – Interactive Classroom Session
The first part is an interactive classroom session covering:

Part 2 – Multiple-Choice Theory Assessment?
The second part consists of a multiple-choice theory assessment designed to check your understanding of the information covered during the training.
Part 3 – Practical Driving Assessment
Our Platinum Package is designed for The final part is a practical driving assessment. This includes at least 30 minutes of driving with the trainer, with feedback provided to help you understand your strengths and any areas that may require improvement. This practical assessment is commonly referred to as the MiDAS Minibus Test.
How Long Does MiDAS Training Take?
Complete Your Training in One Day
Standard MiDAS training usually takes around 4–5 hours to complete. The course can accommodate a maximum of four learners, allowing enough time for practical assessments and individual feedback. This structure means that the classroom, theory and practical elements can usually be completed within one training day. The exact duration can vary depending on the course requirements and number of learners.

If you have your own minibus and require training at your premises, we can arrange a site visit where appropriate. If you don't have your own minibus available for the training, we may be able to provide a vehicle for an additional charge. This can make MiDAS training a convenient option for:

MiDAS vs D1 Licence
Do You Need MiDAS or a D1 Licence?
MiDAS training and a D1 driving licence are not the same thing.
MiDAS is a driver-awareness and training scheme designed for eligible minibus users, particularly in voluntary and not-for-profit settings. Whether you legally need a D1 licence depends on your driving licence, the vehicle, how the minibus is being used and the applicable exemptions and conditions. If you're unsure about your legal entitlement to drive a minibus, you should check the current GOV.UK guidance or speak to a suitably qualified specialist.
