The HGV test changes introduced the Module 3a off-road test as a separate part of the vocational driving test.
At Sirens Driving Academy, we provide Module 3a reverse training and testing at our DVSA-approved site, helping candidates prepare for the reversing exercise and, where applicable, the uncoupling and recoupling exercise.
Our unique indoor DVSA-approved site is close to the M40, Oxford and A41 Aylesbury, and is approximately 45 minutes from London.

Module 3a assesses your ability to safely and accurately manoeuvre the vehicle in an off-road environment.
The Module 3a test includes an S-shaped reversing exercise into a bay, with the candidate required to demonstrate accurate vehicle control and observation.
For tests involving a trailer, such as Category C+E, the test also includes the uncoupling and recoupling procedure.

The official Module 3a test assesses your ability to control and manoeuvre the vehicle while reversing. Common faults include crossing the yellow boundary lines with the full width of a tyre or hitting cones.
What Does the Module 3a Reverse Test Include?
Understand What You'll Be Assessed On
The Module 3a test can include:
S-Shaped Reverse
You will need to complete an S-shaped reversing manoeuvre into a designated bay while maintaining control and observation.
You must avoid hitting the marker cones and crossing the relevant boundary lines.
Uncoupling & Recoupling
If you're taking a test with a trailer, you will also need to demonstrate the correct uncoupling and recoupling procedure.
This includes making the trailer safe when uncoupling and correctly reconnecting and securing it before returning the vehicle to a roadworthy condition.
Vehicle Control
You need to demonstrate good control of the vehicle throughout the reversing exercise.
Observation
You must maintain appropriate all-round observation and be aware of hazards and your surroundings.
