What Is a D1 Driving Licence?
Understanding the D1 Licence
A Category D1 driving licence allows eligible drivers to operate a minibus with:
- No more than 16 passenger seats
- A maximum vehicle length of 8 metres
- A trailer up to 750kg, subject to the applicable requirements
A D1+E / D1E licence allows you to drive a D1-category minibus with a trailer over 750kg, subject to the applicable maximum authorised mass requirements.

D1 or D1+E – Which Licence Do You Need?
D1 Licence
Category D1 allows you to drive a minibus with no more than 16 passenger seats and a maximum length of 8 metres, with a trailer up to 750kg.
D1+E / D1E Licence
If you're unsure about your current D1E allows you to drive a D1-category vehicle with a trailer over 750kg, subject to the combined maximum authorised mass requirements.
